PCI 8th May

Yes thats right our PCI has been booked in for this Monday. I am so excited this long journey is coming to a close. Pretty sick of taking about it.

I checked on the house today and we still dont have carpets. The SS said again they were meant to be put in yesterday. The plumber has been back and the water tank has been hooked up but the pipes need to be painted. We still need appliances and fly screens. The carpets would only take a day but with only 2 days to go I am not sure how confident I am that it will be done in time. I have my fingers crossed!!

Meanwhile I am sorting out a structural engineer to draw up our retaining wall, so the fencer can start his work.

No work

Well after being on a roll, the wheels have now stopped. No work since Anzac day. Nothing.!!!
We were thinking of a PCI last friday but now I am thinking its another 2 weeks away with all the work left to do. Calling the SS tomorrow to ask what is going on with these carpets. I am alittle disappointed now.  Building has so many ups and downs. I knew this from building last time but it still doesnt make it any easier.

We are will most things ourselves after handover. I think thats why our neighbours houses are taking longer because they can afford for the builder to do things.  We are putting in the aircon and the Aeriel in ourselves. TV brackets, downlight, clotheslines, pendants etc all ourselves. We are doing the landscaping etc. Call us frugal or tight or handy but we cant pay inflated prices to do these things. It would be lovely to move into a completed house but we cant do it. When we move in, there will be 1 million small jobs to do. Its going to be chaos for a while.

Meanwhile we have been shopping for the new place. I got some little tub chairs for the kids rooms from kmart. I also got some concrete pendants and stools. We also got all the lighting and fans for the house. We have purchased all the blinds except for the sliding door which will be custom built. We have our bins and clotheslines. My garage is filling up with goodies.

Fingers crossed I have better news next week.

What rubbish?

Still no carpets but they have done a clean of all the room ready for it to go in. They've moved that massive pile of rubbish yay!! and put in the watertank (not hooked up yet). No one was there this morning. We still need fly screen, plumber, oven and rangehood and carpets and thats it. Last week our SS mentioned we may have an inspection tomorrow but that wont happen now, maybe this time next week hopefully.

After hours of preparation my rental was immaculate for the owners to have an inspection because our lease is nearly expired. They said they were happy with how we are maintaining the property (no doubt). They've said we can sign another 12 month lease with an increase of $5 per week.  I can see how people get stuck in the rental trap.  No thanks we are outta here asap. I still need to tell them. Crazy but I still worry our house wont be finished but we are so close now. We should be out of our rental with time to spare before the lease runs out.

We have met with our lovely neighbours regarding our retaining walls and fences. It looks like the walls they are larger than we expected and are about 1.2m high. So now we need an engineer to draw up the plans and we need to get it certified. Sounds costly. We are waiting on quotes.

I got our insurance organised and I have to send that off to the bank.  Now I am just waiting for the PCI date.

Our tree still alive after being run over 2 times. More like a shrub now.

No carpets!

Another peek into the house and our SS said we would have carpets but we dont. So I don't know if he was getting us mixed up with someone else but we don't have carpets. They have put on all the door furniture - lever style looks great. We forgot to upgrade the garage door handle so it looks odd. We will buy another one from bunnings and replace it ourselves to make them all consistent. We also have had the mirrors installed and the shower screens. Our SS said we might have our PCI late next week but I cant see that happening with all the little things that still need to be done. Despite that Ive started packing up my house for the move and collecting moving boxes.

We still need our range hood and oven installed. We got the large gas burner oven as a free upgrade because we asked and the sales agent said yes. We also need the plumber to do the water tank and some taps are missing. Also a site clean which is due on Monday. The pile out the front is massive. I couldn't get a good photo of the front because of it. I will take one next week because the garage door is now on. i am happy with the colours. Surfmist goes well with the bricks.

After some indecision we have decided to moroka the house not render - still haven't decided officially on the colour. We were thinking a grey like shale grey but not sure yet because surfmist is warmer the blue tones in shale grey might look odd. Love to do a patch test first.

Once we have our inspection I will arrange insurance and an interim occupation certificate.

Carpets

Called the SS today and OMG they are putting carpets in today CARPETS. Wow not much to go now. He said we should have an inspection by the end of next week. Now I need to arrange insurance and wait for the final invoice. Final clean is due to be done on the 24th April. Said the bank can inspect on the 26th. No mention of rainwater tank or garage door?? Hopefully its all booked in. Meanwhile I am making my daughters 5th bday cake and yes she want The little Mermaid. I think its above my skill level but I will give it a go. Wish me luck!!

Final works still to be done.

Our modest and 'better' home is slowly coming together. I can wait to have a garage door that I dont need two hands to manually open. I cant wait to not have to log my groceries up three flights of stairs.  I cant wait to have robes in the kids room and a linen press. I could go on and on about how much easier my life will be but I wont bore you lol.

We met with our new neighbours today to discuss the retaining walls and fence. They have all been surprised how quick our house has come together. We don't have a PCI date but I am hoping its soon because we only have a few things left to do. Our bathrooms are floor to roof tiling which look great. I am happy with the tiles we selected. We went for warmer tones in the bathroom compared to the rest of the house. The laundry is just standard because we are going to do that ourselves by adding a bench top and overhead cupboards, so the white subway tile will most likely get pulled off. Kitchen island still looks brown to me but its really a lovely mid grey. I thought it might have been the time of day I took the photo but it must be my camera.

The tile company insisted we pay for floor protection because the tiles were high shine ' its so important' they said. We tried to get out of it but they said we had no choice but to pay the $300. However the floors have been complete now for over a week and the floor hasn't been protected at all. We've had several trades walk through it with their boots on. We will talk to our SS tomorrow and ask about it. I am going to request a refund from the tiler.
